NDIS Counselling Support
Evidence-based counselling for self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants. Online Australia-wide, or in your own home on the Gold Coast.
Much of my career has been spent in the NDIS space. I've built meaningful relationships with clients there, and worked closely with local therapists and service providers. I have a special interest in working with individuals with intellectual disabilities. My full qualifications are on the Meet Jas page.
I'm an NDIS counsellor for self-managed and plan-managed participants. I work with people living with disability and their families, from age 3 to 70. Sessions happen online via Google Meet, anywhere in Australia. Or I can visit you at home if you're on the Gold Coast.
Does the NDIS cover counselling?
Yes, for many participants. Counselling generally sits under Improved Daily Living or psychosocial supports in your plan. If you're self-managed or plan-managed, you can choose any provider you like, including me. Agency-managed plans work differently. They require an NDIS-registered provider, which I'm not at this stage. If that's you, I'm happy to point you toward other options rather than leave you stuck.
Not sure how your plan is managed? Your plan documents or your support coordinator can tell you in a minute. Or send me a message and we'll work it out together.
How does NDIS counselling work? What the research says
NDIS therapy is not about fixing anyone, because nobody here is broken. It works the way all good counselling works. Counselling research keeps returning to one finding. The research on counselling for people with disability is growing, and it's encouraging. Studies support adapted counselling approaches for people with intellectual disability. Sessions can be adjusted in pace, language and format, and the benefits still hold. Telehealth research helps here too. Reviews find video sessions produce the same outcomes as in-person sessions. That removes travel as a barrier to support. For children, sessions are play-based. Play therapy has strong research behind it, including a review of 93 studies showing meaningful improvement across ages and concerns.
Home visits for NDIS participants
Therapy by Jas is a Gold Coast NDIS counselling service at heart. For many self-managed and plan-managed participants, home is the more accessible place to receive support. Home visit sessions work like my online sessions and are priced to the same NDIS price guide. Home visits run across the coast. Support coordinators are welcome to ask about the visit area. Online sessions mean participants anywhere else in Australia get the same support without the travel.
Using your NDIS plan with me
Self-managed or plan-managed participants can book directly. The NDIS intake form covers your goals, your plan details and how you like to work. Self-managed participants pay and claim. Plan-managed participants have invoices sent straight to their plan manager. Sessions are priced in line with the NDIS price guide.
For support coordinators
Referrals from support coordinators are always welcome. You can refer via the NDIS intake form on the Referrals page. You can also email the participant's details and goals and I'll take it from there. I've spent years working closely with local therapists and service providers. I'm comfortable working alongside OTs, speechies and the rest of a participant's team. I'll keep you in the loop the way you and the participant prefer.
